CLUUUNK VROOOM BEEEP!
I designed and illustrated this book whilst studying on a MA Children's Book Illustration course at the Cambridge College of Art. The projects on the degree gave me the opportunity to teach myself the basics of paper engineering.
Cluuunk Vrooom Beeep started from a simple pop up car which I used to develop a story of a car breaking down and other vehicles getting stuck behind it. I had the idea of a pop up book and using a random mechanism I developed, I've also made it possible to have the book fold out so that the entire row of six cars can be seen.
I created the book within 3 weeks (whilst working full time) and although the mechanisms were challenging at times, the hardest part was working out the text so it can be read whilst it is a book but also when it's folded out too, which is why the text is curved.
